A GREAT FINALE TO THE 2009 SEASON Monday 16 November 2009
Rafa has had his most successful year to date on the European Tour, finishing 78th position in the race to Dubai. He had several career highlights during the season. His albatross on the 18th on the final day of the BMW International Open giving him a second place finish. The following week he lead the Open de France ALSTOM for 2 days and he won the International Final Qualifying at Sunningdale to qualify for his first ever Open Championship. This week he has received an invitation to play in Japan in the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Miyazaki. A wonderful opportunity to play in that country. Next week he joins team mate Tano Goya to play for Argentina in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in China. It will be the first time he has competed in the World Cup – a great finale to the 2009 season.
SHOT OF THE MONTH! Tuesday 28 July 2009
Shot of the month for June has been awarded to Rafa for his albatross on the 18th hole at the BMW International Open in Munich. A great finish to three excellent weeks: joint winner at International Final Qualifying, second at the BMW International Open in Munich and then for two days he lead the Open de France Alstom. He went into the final day with a one shot lead. Unfortunately it wasn't to be his tournament but finished a very creditable T13 in a very impressive field. He failed to make the cut in the Open Championship but it was a huge experience. This week he's playing in the Moravia Silesia Open in the Czech Republic.
SECOND IN GERMANY Sunday 28 June 2009
Rafa finished 2nd in the BMW International Open in Munich. His best finish in 2009 and putting him at 55 in the Race to Dubai Standings. He started the back nine on the final day at -1 for the day. He then proceeded to eagle the 11th hole, then birdie 12, 13, 15 and 17. On 18 he had 240 yards to the pin for his second shot. He holed an amazing 3 iron for an albatross 2! Thus finishing at -21, having shot 62 with a back nine of 27! What a great start to some of the most important weeks on the European Tour. This week Rafa is playing in the Open de France ALSTOM and then the Barclays Scottish Open before playing in his first major, the 138th Open Championship.
